New Monthly Topic - Foood!

There is nothing in the world that can actually compare to food - in my mind anyway! This month we are going to be posting about our favourite topic - FOOD! From preparing it, to cooking it, to eating it! Also some tips on good restaurants and take-out (both healthy and unhealthy) selections!

I am going to specifically talk about the preparation and different types of cooking that I love. I do not ever follow recipes - I read them; get the ingredients and remix it! Sometimes I cannot even lie - I try my food and am surprised it came out tasting great.

As it is Autumn, the best types of food to be having for dinner now is Casseroles. They are warm, filling, healthy and so easy to make! My first year at university (I am saying this as if I have finished - I am only in my second year!); I found this so handy to make. Beef casserole was the best thing to put to slow cook from about 1pm and its ready by about 4/5 and there is always enough for the next day!

Here is the ingredients list (I am not going to tell you a recipe...you come up with that on your own! Be Creative!):

  • olive oil
  • 1 onion , diced
  • 1 carrot , diced
  • 1 leek , diced
  • 2 celery sticks, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves , crushed
  • 75g mushrooms , sliced
  • 500g braising steaks , cubed
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 3 sprigs of thyme
  • beef stock , fresh, cube or concentrate made up to 750ml
  • 2 tbsp tomato purée
  • a dash of Worcestershire sauce

I got this list from BBC good foods website....you can go on it as well to get the recipe if you want to look up a method! (http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3923/beef-and-vegetable-casserole )

I always add more than the ingredients like Basil, italian herbs, all purpose seasoning, maggi ....etc. As I said I always remix everything!

Let us know when you try it and tell me if you remixed it or kept to the method on the website!

So what?

So what...if people find you a little bit strange because you're eccentric and can never seem to stop smiling.

When the whole world is gloomy and depressed, at least you have a personality.

So what...if no one seems to compliment you as much as the next girl.

When you look in the mirror, at least you have the self assurance that you look good.

So what...if he or she can do this, this and that much better than you can.

When it seems like you're an average Joe, you'll surprise yourself when you find out what you can do that no one else can.

It's all about being assured of yourself.

Trust me, you can do it. I used to think the same way as the examples just given. But after finding it, self assurance brought me a long way.

;)

This week reflection

My Saturday posts will be like a weekly reflection day which i am excited about!

So for the last week i have been living alone as my mum has been on holiday (lucky her lol) and i was excited because who doesnt want to experience life on their own especially when you are getting older.

So during this week i have learnt a lot about what it takes to live alone, having to think about little things that i didn't have to before and it really put things into perspective because i was able to see things from how my mum sees it, thinking about electricity and having to cook all the time and clothes washing and doing all of this after a long day at work.

Point is...challenges come and they may be a bit scary but its can be a learning curve and help you for later in life.

Having the chance to live by myself has been interesting and i have actually loved every minute of it, its has definitely showed me a glimpse of how it will be when i eventually move out.

It encourages confidence and maturity, so if you ever get the chance to live alone, make the most of it, learn to do something you didnt know how to before, teach yourself things, its a great time to add to yourself :)

Fashion

My favourite accessory is something so simple. It is absolutely priceless...it is something that when you see someone with it you cannot help but wear it too.

You must be thinking what am I talking about right ? It's your smile.

Do you know how beautiful a woman looks when she smiles? How young she looks?

This secret has been stopped by fashion magazine with models plastered on the front cover 'pouting'. Screwfacing and looking sad became a trend...looking as if your bored...?? That makes no sense at all!

When you smile, your whole face lights up and it automatically lights up the face of others because who can keep a straight face while someone is smiling at them?

I personally used to hate smiling because I have gapped teeth but I don't care! I love my gap and my smile. Everyone who knows me knows I love to smile, its one of the first things I learnt on the path of being comfortable in my own skin.

It's free, its beautiful and you've already got it! Use it. I challenge you to smile at least 3 times a day for a week and come back on here to tell us what changed for you. I guarantee the way you see yourself will change.

Apologies for not being able to post sooner...I will be posting my other Fashion Post in a while!

Love and hugs

Fashion Month - It's the little things...

So I don't know if you know, but London Fashion week has started today.

I would love to get a front row seat to a fashion show. I wonder how fashionistas, prominent, designers, buyers and others decide what makes a particular outfit so good. They could praise a simple cut shirt and shun a delicately embellished blouse.

I went on a fashion shoot yesterday as I'm doing an internship for New! Magazine, and I really got a firsthand experience of what it's like. The clothes the model had to wear were nothing out of the ordinary; the shoot was in fact based on the coats worn because New! are doing a winter coat theme for their feature shhh.

Anyway, I know how I would have spiced up any one of those outfits...with accessories!

It's the little things that make the big things stand out. Accessories, most of the time, are what make an outfit matter. You can wear a simple black top, like I am today, but because I've added a chunky pearl necklace I must say I do look quite the part.

Here are some necklaces (which are my favourite type of accessory) that are sure to scream 'look at me', even if you're wearing the drabbest outfit.

Multirow tube necklace, £15, Miss Selfridge

Chunky chain necklace, £19.99, limited at New Look
(This particular necklace was worn by the model on the fashion shoot yesterday =])

Cream pearl crochet collar necklace, £20, River Island
Mixed metal plait collar necklace, £9, Matalan

As you can see from my selection I seem to have a thing for gold (it stands out against my skin colour), but there are plenty more which will compliment any look.

Have fun accessory shopping. Michelle xoxo

Weekly Topic 2 - Self Confidence

[Apologises for this being so late]

Do you know what makes a girl/woman attractive? When she is confident. Not so confident that she is arrogant but when she is truly comfortable in herself and does not allow anyone to put her down.

The best way to tackle lack of confidence is by going against how you feel. For example: you are not confident enough to speak in front of others - confront it - speak and speak like you never have before. Another example you like to wear dark colours when you are feeling down - pull out a red dress and do not allow what you think to get ahead of you.

When you allow lack of confidence to bring fear to you - the only person you are hurting; is yourself!

Do you realise that when you have lack of confidence you open many windows for fear to rest in you?

You get my drift...Boost yourself up; no one else can/or should do it for you! That way when silly people come with those ridiculously hideous comments - it bounces off you!

So remember to build up your confidence do these steps(in no particular order):

  • Do something completely different to what you would normally do
  • Be yourself - accept yourself too!
  • Socialize, speak up and enjoy yourself
  • Look you best - nothing boosts up the confidence of a woman more than when she knows she looks good! Try doing this daily
  • Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself 'I AM AWESOME' 'I AM BEAUTIFUL'

It's time for a change...The only way it will happen is if you do something different!

Hope you get it!

Love and Hugs
